Onsite Learning During Covid-19

Prevention 

  • Temperature checks of all children at drop-off with a contactless thermometer.

  • Temperature checks of all staff will be taken upon entry with a contactless thermometer.

  • Any child or employee with a temperature of 100.4℉ or higher will need to return home.

  • Covid-19 vaccinations may be required once readily available.

    • All staff have had their first Covid-19 vaccine injection.

  • Children and Staff will wash hands upon entry and throughout the day, after using bathroom, before and after snack/lunch, and after outdoor play.

  • Masks will be mandatory for children ages 5 and up and recommended for ages 2.5-5.

  • Children should have two to three masks at school and they should be washed every night.

    • Bandanas, buffs, or scarf type facial coverings are not sufficient. Masks should fit properly.

  • Staff will wear appropriate and fitted facial coverings at all times.

Cleaning/Disinfecting

  • Common areas will be disinfected with 3-step cleaning process including diluted bleach solution at the end of the day.

  • Classrooms and other areas to which students have access when at Pikake School will be carefully sanitized every evening.

  • Materials and equipment will be sanitized every evening.

  • Any area observed to have come into contact with bodily fluids during the school day will be cordoned off and sanitized immediately.

  • Used cleaning supplies and materials will be laundered or disposed of after each use.

 

Snack/Lunch

  • Individual food preparation activity and community snack self-serving will be suspended until such time as health authorities indicate it is safe to allow. 

  • Teachers will wear gloves while serving snacks to the children or helping with lunch.

Items from Home

  • School materials will stay at school; no home materials are brought to school with the exception of pencil pouch, which stays at school, lunch box and jacket/coat/indoor shoes when necessary. Any items regularly brought to school should be cleaned/sanitized every night.

  • No personal toys are allowed at school.

Social Distancing

  • To the greatest extent possible, social distancing will be practiced throughout the school day. 

  • Teachers are assigned to a specific class with the same group of children throughout the day. A floater assistant will help with cleaning, coverage of breaks, and supervising outdoor play.  Classes will not mix or combine with another classroom inside.

If your child is ill:

  • Child will stay home until symptoms are resolved and can return with a negative COVID-19 test result .

  • If your child has a fever, he/she should still stay home until 24 hours after the fever resolves and symptoms improve.  Fever reducing medication must not have been used in the last 24 hours.

 

After testing positive for Covid-19, your child can return when:

  • At least 5 days have passed since symptoms first showed up and wearing a mask or 10 days have passed since symptoms first showed up and no mask requirement. AND

  • At least 24 hours have passed since recovery.  Recovery = no fever without the use of medications and improvement in respiratory signs like cough and shortness of breath.
