Onsite Learning During COVID-19

Prevention

  • Temperature checks of all children at drop-off with a contactless thermometer.

  • Temperature checks of all staff will be taken upon entry with a contactless thermometer.

  • Any child or employee with a temperature of 100.4℉ or higher will need to return home.

  • Covid-19 vaccinations may be required once readily available.

    • All staff have had their first Covid-19 vaccine injection.

  • Children and Staff will wash hands upon entry and throughout the day, after using bathroom, before and after snack/lunch, and after outdoor play.

  • Masks will be mandatory for children ages 5 and up and recommended for ages 3-5.

  • Children should have two to three masks at school and they should be washed every night.

    • Bandanas, buffs, or scarf type facial coverings are not sufficient. Masks should fit properly.

  • Staff will wear appropriate and fitted facial coverings at all times.

Cleaning/Disinfecting

  • Common areas will be disinfected with 3-step cleaning process including diluted bleach solution at the end of the day.

  • Classrooms and other areas to which students have access when at Pikake School will be carefully sanitized every evening.

  • Materials and equipment will be sanitized every evening.

  • Any area observed to have come into contact with bodily fluids during the school day will be cordoned off and sanitized immediately.

  • Used cleaning supplies and materials will be laundered or disposed of after each use.

Snack/Lunch

  • Individual food preparation activity and community snack self-serving will be suspended until such time as health authorities indicate it is safe to allow.

  • Teachers will wear gloves while serving snacks to the children or helping with lunch.

  • Students will be spaced apart during lunch.

Items from Home

  • School materials will stay at school; no home materials are brought to school with the exception of pencil pouch, which stays at school, lunch box and jacket/coat/indoor shoes when necessary. Any items regularly brought to school should be cleaned/sanitized every night.

  • No personal toys are allowed at school.

Social Distancing

  • To the greatest extent possible, social distancing will be practiced throughout the school day.

  • Teachers are assigned to a specific class with the same group of children throughout the day. A floater assistant will help with cleaning, coverage of breaks, and supervising outdoor play.  Classes will not mix or combine with another classroom inside.

  • Drop-Off & Pick-Up will be completed via a car line. Parents are to remain in their cars.

  • Drop-Off: A staff member will come to the car to for check-in using a mobile application, unbuckle the child from the car seat, and escort the child to his/her classroom.

  • Pick-Up: A staff member will bring the child to the car for check-out. The parent will then exit the car to buckle the child into his/her car seat and proceed to the garage exit.

  • When at all possible, the same adult should pick up and drop off the child each day.

If Your Child Is Ill
If your child is ill, but has not been exposed to someone with a confirmed positive Covid-19 test:

  • If your child has a Covid-19 test that is negative, they should still stay home until 24 hours after the fever resolves and symptoms improve.  Fever reducing medication must not have been used in the last 24 hours.

  • If your child does not get a Covid-19 test, they should stay home for 10 days after symptom onset and at least 24 hours after the fever resolves and symptoms have improved.  Fever reducing medication must not have been used in the last 24 hours.

If your child tests positive for Covid-19, close contacts need to be quarantined for 14 days.

After testing positive for Covid-19, your child can return when:

  • At least 24 hours have passed since recovery.  Recovery = no fever without the use of medications and improvement in respiratory signs like cough and shortness of breath.

AND

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first showed up.

If your child has been in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19 but they are not ill:

  • You should watch your child for Covid-19 symptoms for 14 days after the last day they were in close contact with the Covid-19 positive person.

  • Your child should not go to school or go in public places for 14 days.

  • You should consider having your child tested for Covid-19 between days 3-8 even if no symptoms are present, but a negative test does not negate the 14-day quarantine period.
